Do you hate to see items go to landfill? Want to do you bit for the environment? Often wonder if something could be fixed to save spending money on a replacement? A CD player that no longer works or a vacuum that doesn't seem to be as good as it once was? Then the new Repair Cafe at Staple Hill Methodist Church is for you.
The Repair Cafe movement started in the Netherlands in 2009 and there are now hundreds in the UK and thousands worldwide. It is run by volunteers who have the practical skills an knowhow to help out the community reduce waste, save money and maybe learn a new skill in the process.
The Repair Cafe, held in the church, will take place every third Saturday of the month between 10 am and noon starting on 18th January 2025.
They will endeavour to repair household items for free with the owner paying for any required parts (such as batteries). A donation to the church for this service would be greatly appreciated. They will be unable to supply a drop-off service for collection later with the owner staying to watch the repair enabling the volunteers to pass on their knowledge. Please come in for a chat and advice on any items you need repairing.
The church will also be serving tea, coffee and cake during the Repair Cafe so why not stop for refreshments before you leave.
